This guide is designed to help stakeholders select content formats which can be produced for their social media campaigns.

You will find 6 formats. For each format we have detailed:
  • When this format is best employed.
  • Approximate time to produce the content.
  • Approximate internal cost to produce.*
  • Approximate external cost to produce (e.g by an agency).
  • An example of live content which uses this format.
*There is no internal cost but this will give you an indication of the value of the work required.

Option 1: Image and text
When this format is best employed
Perfect for quick and easy posts which do not have a lot of information to convey.

Approximate time to produce the content
Planning: 1 hr
Production & editing: 2 hrs
Review & sign off: 1 hr
Total cost: 4 hrs


Approximate internal cost to produce
4 hrs x $80 = $320

Approximate external cost to produce (e.g by an agency)
4 hrs x $140 = $560

Option 2: Slideshow imagery
When this format is best employed
Also perfect for quick and easy posts. Just provide us with multiple images. Facebook will then turn these images into a short “slideshow” video.

Approximate time to produce the content
Planning: 1 hr
Production & editing: 2 hrs
Review & sign off: 1 hr
Total cost: 4 hrs

Approximate internal cost to produce
4 hrs x $80 = $320

Approximate external cost to produce (e.g by an agency)
4 hrs x $140 = $560

Option 3: Video – BBC Style
When this format is best employed
Use this format when you don’t have anyone to feature in the video. This format overlays text on to videos so the text does the story telling. 

Approximate time to produce the content
Planning: 3 hr
Production & editing: 6 hrs
Review & sign off: 1 hr
Total cost: 10 hrs

Approximate internal cost to produce
10 hrs x $80 = $800

Approximate external cost to produce (e.g by an agency)
10 hrs x $140 = $1400

Option 4: Video – Interview
​When this format is best employed
Ideal for communicating a lot of information in a short period of time whilst also introducing a key peron.

Approximate time to produce the content
Planning: 1 hr
Production & editing: 4 hrs
Review & sign off: 1 hr
Total cost: 6 hrs

Approximate internal cost to produce
6 hrs x $80 = $480

Approximate external cost to produce (e.g by an agency)
6 hrs x $140 = $840

Option 5: Video – Chapter
When this format is best employed
Perfect when your “talent” is nervous as the format allows them time. Also works well when you have a lot of information to convey.

Production & editing: 4 hrs
Review & sign off: 1 hr
Total cost: 8 hrs

Option 6: Video – High production
When this format is best employed
This is the format which has the biggest impact. It requires multiple people and can include drone footage. Should only be employed on big projects.

Production & editing: 16 hrs
Review & sign off: 2 hrs
Total cost: 26 hrs
